Savers pull £18bn from pensions ahead of inheritance tax raid
Savers have pulled more than £18bn from their pensions as they rush to protect their money from Rachel Reeves’ inheritance tax raid, according to official figures.
Wealth managers said they had seen a rise in inquiries from savers wanting to access their pension cash because of inheritance tax changes and policy uncertainty.
More than £18bn was withdrawn tax free from retirement pots in the year to the end of March 2025, compared with £11.25bn in the previous year, the Financial Conduct Authority reported.
The number of savers taking their tax free lump sum also jumped from 163,500 to 211,000 in the same period.
We work with investors who have over £250,000 available for our HMO opportunities. Pension holders can access up to 25% of their pension pot as a one-off tax-free lump sum. This means we are ideally looking for individuals with pension savings of £1 million or more who want to unlock part of their pension and put it to work in high-yielding property investments.
